My little sister is having a baby! She was {and still is} an avid Harry Potter fan. So, when my older sister and I were planning her baby shower it was an easy choice. The perfect way to celebrate her soon-to-arrive baby boy? A Harry Potter brunch! In the process of planning, we came to the realization that our parents’ house is basically The Burrow – an old home, lots of additions over time, baskets and thcotchkes everywhere – the perfect place to host a very Potter baby shower. Here’s how we made it come to life.
Guests were directed to the back patio using this sign.
They were greeted with this view!
For table decor it was white linens, gold tulle runners, and these fun little figurines reminiscent of Hogsmeade. (Did I mention my parents’ house was The Burrow? It’s full of this stuff!)
At each place setting was a writing prompt for guests to complete that included a “Wishes for Baby” segment and an “Advice for Mama” segment. Here’s a Wishes for Baby and Advice for Mama free Printable! We printed these on cream colored parchment paper.
Also at each place setting was a thank-you note envelope (on which guests could write their mailing address), a golden snitch, and a chocolate wand.
My older sister made the golden snitches using Ferrero Roche chocolates, paper wings, and a dab of craft glue. SO fabulous, aren’t they?!
My mom-in-law made the chocolate wands using long pretzel sticks and Wilton chocolates. She’s the best! Everyone received one at their place setting and for good measure we served the rest on the brunch buffet.
Which brings me to…the brunch buffet. Oh my, how nerdy did we get?! We had a little too much fun naming our menu items. Here are some free printable Harry Potter Brunch Table Tents for my wonderful readers! On the menu was the following:
Quidditch Quiche
Olivander’s Fruit Wands
Forbidden Forest Fruit & Yogurt Bar
I got a really blurry picture of the fruit & yogurt bar so here’s a list of what we had instead: vanilla yogurt, fresh blueberries, fresh strawberries, dried cranberries, granola, coconut, brown sugar, and slivered almonds.
Honeyduke’s Chocolate Wands
Polyjuice Potion
Hogwarts Hot Coffee
Mandrakes
The Mandrakes were a huge hit! To make them we bought little plastic babies and greenery at a craft store. My brother-in-law was the lucky duck who got to drill holes in each of the babies’ heads and then glue in a bit of greenery. The morning of the shower we nestled a cupcake inside a small flower pot then pressed a little “mandrake” into the center of each cupcake. So fun, so delicious, and only a little creepy for those in attendance who were unfamiliar with Professor Sprout! 🙂
Over by the presents we hung a poster of the Hogwarts Express that my older sister found here on Amazon.
And last but not least was a photo booth complete with a random assortment of props from around The Burrow my parents’ house – a cauldron, a broom, an owl in bird cage, a gold frame. You know, the usual. My older sister made a huge Gryffindor scarf of gold and scarlet fleece and I made Harry’s glasses, his lightning bolt scar, cat ears, and a mustache out of black cardstock and BBQ skewers.
Each guest had her picture taken in the photo booth, even the Mama-to-be!
After the shower we gave the guest-of-honor a scrapbook including each guest’s Wishes for Baby/Advice for Mama card beside their photo booth picture.
It was a magical morning of food, fellowship, and tiny onesies as we celebrated our baby sister and her much anticipated little muggle!
