In case you missed it, the Mountains like to party. It’s true. There is no shortage of reasons to celebrate in our house and I take advantage of each and every one of them! This summer I was discussing an upcoming event I was co-hosting with my sister. She came to me for my “professional” party opinion. I just looked at her kinda funny and said, “Why are you asking me?”
She in turn looked at me kinda funny and said, “Are you serious?! This is your thing!” I was so confused. You see, in my brain, the knowledge I possessed about party planning and hosting was knowledge I just assumed everyone else possessed as well. It’s like I thought I was the last one to have figured it all out.
It got me thinking…maybe she’s right? Maybe it is my thing?
I mean, I did major in Nutrition Science in college. A large part of the coursework included time in various kitchens. We planned, forecasted, and prepped meals for a campus cafe not to mention the countless hours in food lab. (Yeah, that’s a thing. And yeah, it’s as delicious as it sounds!) Then during my dietetic internship at a metropolitan hospital much time was spent understanding the on-goings of their ginourmous food system. So it hit me during that summer discussion with my sister that maybe I do know a little more than the average bear about feeding a crowd.
And maybe I do know a bit about DIY decorations and party set-up given that I’m a glue-gun addict with a craft cabinet even Martha Steward would envy. I mean, if I were presented with the opportunity to relax by watching a movie OR relax by watching a move + working on a craft I would always choose the latter. (It drives my husband crazy.)
And maybe I do have some knowledge of hosting since I regularly open my doors for holidays, birthdays, showers, and baptisms… Doggone it, my sister was right! There’s a perfect storm for party hosting brewing in my head.
It *is* my thing!
